My buddy and I each have a computer hooked up(on 1 connection) in our apartment %26 share the expense of the connection cost. He has been on adult sites and has been receiving 40-50 emails each day from questionable sites...what effect, if any will that have on my computer???(viruses, etc.)

As long as the two computer are not networked - and by that, I mean share files or drives - you'll be fine. By simply sharing a connection, your computers are not linked and his actions won't hurt your computer.
However, if they are networked and you're sharing files and such, then make sure you have the altest anti-spyware program and anti-virus programs and they're both updated regularly and you'll be fine.
Hope this helps.

If you use the Internet Connection Sharing feature of Windows (which means you need to connect the two PC's via a network cable or wireless network) then your computer are at risk. I recommend that you advise your friend from staying away from these sites. All the spam and malware received because of his actions is costing you money because it wastes bandwidth.
He will be better off without that junk sites anyway.

If he continues to visit those sites (while connected to your computer or vice versa) and you still feel afraid of getting infected get yourself a security suite like AVG Internet Security (http://www.cybertopcops.com/avg-internet... and let your friend mess up his life and his computer.
