Can anyone help me with my problem copying a DVD?

I was trying to make a back-up copy of my daughter's new Dora Explorer DVD (as with her sticky little fingers her DVDs are damaged quite quickly). I tried initially with Nero 7 Recode and AnyDVD but it failed. My husband interupted it a second time because he had work to do. Anyway, now the computer won't recognise the DVD at all and I can't do anything with it. I can still watch it on my DVD player but not the computer. When inserted the drive shows up as empty. Is this a copy protection thing? Is there anything I can do?

Try cleaning the disc. If this doesn't work, then try a different disc, to determine if the drive failed. My first guess would be the disc, and if it is scratched enough, then you might need to fix that. I hear toothpaste is a good abrasive to use to buff out the scratches. Or if 'sticky fingers' has a bunch of discs she likes, I might invest in one of those disc restorers. Or burn a 'backup' of each new one before you use it...

As far as a copy software, DVDShrink works pretty good, unless it has some pretty good encryption on it...

Even i faced the same problem. try to open the DVD from different computers. If it works on any of the machine, then try to open it. sometimes it works.
You can try this and c. But there is no guarantee that it would work. Try this at your own risk. All u can do is use Toothpaste in small amount and just rub it and fill the scratches by moving from the centre of the disc to outside. then u can clean the same with good water and then make it dry. Try inserting the same into the drive and check if it plays/works. Never use any other harsh chemicals/cleaners and do so.
