Privacy protection software?

Does anyone know if those privacy protection software downloads are a scam?

If you are browsing through adult websites and a pop comes up saying "all the webistes you are looking at are being recorded including your CC numbers etc.. " and you need to get a privacy protector! that looks like a scam and once you download that software it probably makes it worse and puts cookies on your computer and then keeps track of everything.

Yes and no about scams. A good amount are scams, but at the same time the message they are telling you is real. If you get one of these pop-ups and want to know if it is legit then go on tucows.com or download.com or something and look it up. Or better yet just type in something general like "privacy protection" and then whatever results come up consider downloading one of those.

Do not trust the pop-up and download right from there but do some research. There are many internet privacy softwares out there that are not scams. Some will delete cookies and everything while others will allow you to hide and browse without deleting files since they encrypt them for you.

In this particular instance it definitely sounds like a scam. These kind of tactics are common with some software sellers who want to press a certain brand to make them money, but the chances are (and they're very high) that the software is infected with spyware - which is always installed without your knowledge.

If you're looking for reputable security software (free or paid versions), check out the site below.
you can use norton internet security
A good rule of thumb is to never buy or trust anything that is advertised on a pop-up, ever.
if its a pop up off an adult website, its most likely a virus/spyware

however, there are legit programs for this purpose, such as

"ccleaner"

and others that truly clear caches cookies etc
