COMPUTER HELP... please answer?

ok, so this security alert keeps popping up on my computer saying:

" YOur Computer is at risk in the following areas:

- virus protection out of date

open your Norton product to resolve these these issues"

NOw, i did open up NOrton but it says out of date..... And the thing WONT stop popping up even after i closed it. What should i do, please any suggestions will help.

COMPUTER HELP... please answer?virus

The thing with Norton is its anti-virus module is good but when it comes to the firewall, it simply sucks.

The alert simply means your Norton anti-virus database is out of date and you need to update it over the internet. If you don't have internet connection on your PC, follow this link --%26gt; http://www.symantec.com/business/securit... %26lt;-- from some cyber-cafe or something and download the latest virus definations and install it into your PC.

If you paid for Norton, keep on using it until expiration, as its anti-virus system is reliable. But, if its an illegal (cracked) version, then go ahead and un-install it and replace it with either Kaspersky or NOD32.

COMPUTER HELP... please answer?anti virus

It mean that you must connect to internet and update your NOrton antivirus. all of antivirus in the world need update for their product, bcause virus is start to develop.

Why does my computer think my DVD-writer is a CD-ROM drive??

I have had my computer for over a year. Ive used the DVD writer drive many times and with many different programs. I keep my computer up to date and have great virus protection and firewall. But recently for no reason, my computer reads the DVD-writer drive as just a CD-drive. I have tried updating, uninstalling reinstalling, system restore, etc etc. Im using the right disks, everything. Basically it just reads it wrong. I mostly use it to make DVD movies with Windows Movie Maker and never had a problem before. But now I receive an error message stating the disc format is not supported even though Ive used it before. When I look in Windows Explorer when there is no disk in there it identifies it as DVD-RW. But when I put the correct disk in it identifies it as CD-Drive. Yet when I copy one DVD onto another DVD it works fine! And on top of all this, when Ive finally just given up, it works again! It has a mind of its own. Any advice or solutions would be great!

maybe its time to just spend 50$ on a newer/better dvd writer?

Sounds like somthing might be wrong with the hardware itself. Try checking the manufacturer's website for solutions or if your computer is still under a warranty or a service contract, contact the computer manufacturer.

Just bought a new desktop and I want to prtect it from viruses, adware, spyware, etc.. Know any good

Whether they are free or not I just want to know that I have a good foundation to protect this new computer from any problems. What kinds programs would be considered "must haves" for total computer protection and where can I get them???

For your computer to be fully protected, you need an antivirus program, antispyware software and a firewall. Or you can choose an all-in-one security suite. Visit this page for more info and free antivirus, antispyware and firewalls: www.kiete.com

I need password protection. I work at a church?

and it seems that on the weekend, everyone uses the office computer. My secretary has believes someone is in-putting their tithes (in red font mind you) when she does not have an envelope as proof that that individual gave that much money on Sunday, and is admant that she did not put it in. I want to be able to let them have access to word so that they can type up their flyers and stuff(they'll raise hell if they don't get it) but, not be able to get to the financial, etc. information. Please advise.

I need password protection. I work at a church?windows

You could use a program like Quicken or QuickBooks to manage the church's financial affairs; with those you can password-protect the financial data so that hopefully only you and your chosen few would have access to it.

I need password protection. I work at a church?antivirus download

Try a pen and paper to record who gave what and to whom. But why keep track of how much who gave and when? Does the more you give provide you a better ride to heaven?

Get rid of Word. Go with Corel WordPerfect and separate computer systems for general use and another for church business.

Most people have computers at home, so it's kind of hard to buy that excuse.

How do I download and run when I always get "invalid package size" message?

My computer is totally infested, so I tried to download three software products to correct the problem. Everytime, I received this message along with a message that a documents and settings file has been corrupted and that installation is impossible. How do I resolve this?

I have windows XP, so I was thinking of switching to another user or using netscape navigator under the same user to download. What do you think I should do?

I have Spybot, Windows Defender, Earthlink Protection Control, Ad-aware and they just do not detect everything that is on my computer Earthlink sometimes detects things and then can't manage to delete them.

How do I download and run when I always get "invalid package size" message?

It means someone saw you naked and you have a package the size of an invalid. SEriously though, you may want to do a system restore that takes your computer back to where it was when you bought it. or go to Geek Squad or Firedog and let them clean it for you

Computer Virus Problem?

I think I'm having my first computer virus because all these advertisements for spyware software keep coming up. They even chnaged my background to a link that says click here for spyware protection and I can't figure out how to get rid of all this.

Now multiple windows with different styles of popups say it is from Microsoft security center. One i think downloaded VirusIsolator which even deleted my norton anti-virus software from the desktop. I can't even do system restore. Anyone have any ideas?

Computer Virus Problem?abtuvurys 2005

These days you need a whole lot more than just a virus protection. Only about 15% of all malware is viruses. The rest is worms, trojans, phishing schemes, spyware, etc.

Here's some ideas to make Internet Security Suite (securitycenter) for free. Free is always the best.

--------------------------------------...

1. For your Anti-Virus......(Always use only 1 A-V...You must NEVER use more than one anti-virus, Even an expired anti-virus can cause a major conflict...(did I mention that you MUST uninstall any old anti-virus products?)

For your anti-virus needs, I would suggest Avira AntiVir庐 PersonalEdition Classic. It has excellent heuristics, a virus detection rate that is better than many of "paid-for" anti-virus programs and is light on using your computer's resources. And did I mention that it's free!

How do i stop norton antivirus from poping up?

I get the security alert every minute saying my computer is at risk in the following areas: virus protection is out of date. i've checked the settings numerous times and i cant get it to stop.

How do i stop norton antivirus from poping up?adware

that is the biggest problem I've found with norton and unfortunately only way to get rid of norton completely is to wipe the drive and start fresh I use AVG for that purpose it's free for personal use.I used to use norton on systems Ibuilt and then after finding that out I deleted the software from my library of software. One more take have you checked to see if there's an update.if so install it and that should solve the issue for now.

How do i stop norton antivirus from poping up?antivirus scan

try to uninstall it, you shoul try AVG antivirus, it's free and not anoying
Format your harddisk and re-install norton anti-virus .
reinstall it, the fastest way, make sure auto updates is turned on and your subscription is not out of date
why dont u run a full update. It will solve your problem

relax. there is nothin to worry about. they are only antivirus programs that protect your PC against viruses. to uninstall them, go to start %26gt; control panel%26gt; add or remove programs. then look for the names of the three and uninstall them one by one. and then download a really good and free antivirus program, AVG from http://www.griftsoft.com.

hope i helped........lol
If you don't need them, just uninstall them with control panel %26gt; Add/Remove Programs. Maybe they came with the computer (you should ask your brother). Its always good to have an anti-virus installed (AVG is one of the best free ones)
First go hit your brother. REALLY REALLY hard. He managed to get lots of rogue programs downloaded on the computer.

Blackbird is a trojan downloader. The rest I believe are rogue programs.

Who has the best free spyware, addware, virus protection?

i recently installed trend micro and its keeps on repedeatedly asking me to fix this and that maybe i dont have it set up right but i am new to computers and was advised to buy this program and i dont think it is working right or i dont have it set up right please e mail me if anyone is running this trend security

Who has the best free spyware, addware, virus protection?anti virus scan

. i am not using Trend. i have free suggestions. choose which programs you like as to what you need. i would advise installing antivirus that will work.you should only have one antivirus program, but you should always have at least 2 spyware/adware scanners to remove things. certain programs detect certain things that others bypass. i have a few cleanup and program suggestions. choose whichever you like. your computer safety programs might not be the safest depending on what they are. but i can guarentee my suggestions are safe. cleaning up your computer can make it run faster. also go to the start menu, then go to RUN, then type msconfig and choose the startup and you can enable or disable certain programs from starting when you boot your computer. but here are my suggestions:

*AVG is not as reliable as AVAST go to http://download.com and download it (search for Avast home) dont register it and when the demo is up, just uninstall it and reinstall it. it also helps because if you download a bad file from limewire or the internet, it alerts you immediately so you can delete it right away. certain AVG programs will be charging for updates soon and thats not good if you cant pay for them you ushould always keep your antivirus up to date. keep Avast home edition open in your toolbar at all times. it moniters alot of potentially harmful things its really great. if you dont have firewall i suggest downloading Zonealarm (which is free) and if you need antispyware, download Spybot search and destroy and superantispyware free edition

Downloading DVD's and blu-rays onto a computer question.?

Are there any copyright protection issues impacting playback with uploading my DVD's and blu-rays that I own/rent onto a personal computer? If so, how would one get around these?

Downloading DVD's and blu-rays onto a computer question.?anti virus software

I'm not sure yet with the Blue Ray, but you can download DVD shrink which will allow you to remove the protection so you can put it on your machine and even burn it.

However, you can only do it legally if you are making a back up copy for yourself and not sharing with friends and family. Personally, I back up every DVD I buy in case it gets lost or scratched.

If you see new toolbars in your Internet Explorer that you haven't intentionally installed, if your browser crashes inexplicably, or if your home page has been "hijacked" (or changed without your knowledge), your computer is most probably infected with spyware. Even if you don't see the symptoms, your computer may be infected, because more and more spyware is emerging. Spybot-S%26D is free.

put the cd in and follow directions, but it may not remove viruses. in fact i doubt it.
this really differs from computer to computer. Since you were able to get online to ask this question, go to the website of the manufacturer of your computer (dell, hp, gateway, lenovo,,,.). Every manufacturer has instructions on how to reinstall the operating system. The restore disk is one thing, but you also need a disc with drivers, or better yet, download the latest drivers for your model. If the computer came preinstalled with, say, Office or a DVD player, you need media for that too.

After restoring your PC, make sure you run Microsoft (Windows) Update until you have all updates, especially the security updates. And, of course, invest in a good antivirus package (Norton Antivirus 2007/ Norton Internet Security 2007/Norton 360 are good ones but there are other good ones as well.). And be sure to get valuable files (music, digital photos, email archive, documents) off the old setup because you have to start ith a totally new/clean C: drive. Be careful that you only copy your old files back AFTER you have installed virus protection.
Put the disk in, it will give you a step by step overview of what has to be done. Its not hard to do. Microsoft designed the disk so that anyone could use it. When you go through the options it might give you an option to do a clean restore which would clear the hardriva and start you all over again. That woul be the best decision to use but if you have important files on the compute than dont do it. It will prabably give you a bunch of dates and just choose one that you know that all the virus's were gone on. Its a simple task. The hardest part for most people is finding the disk.

Scan your computer for free with BitDefender's online virus scan. They are one of the leading anti-virus products and it will allow you to clean or remove the virus.

BitDefender Online Scanner is a fully functional antivirus product, but you will need to get an anti-virus program. If you want a free anti-virus I recommend in order of popularity, but please choose the right one for you (install only one):

1. AVG Free

a. A simple interface (easier to use than Avast! and Avira)

b. Can detect about 82.82% of viruses

Cons: low virus detection

2. Avast!

a. Real-time protection

b. It has an option to delete a virus once found

c. Can detect about 87.46% of viruses.

Cons: Too many icons and confusing user interface

Apple care protection plan ?

if you're getting the Apple care protection plan for a macbook, or any other Apple product, do you have to get it before the 1 year warranty runs out ?

also, is there a way to find out the exact date that your macbook was bought using your computer?

Apple care protection plan ?antivirus scan

a) You 100% have to buy before the 1 year is up.

b) If you bought your Mac at the Apple store (online or in an Apple store), they will have your record/receipt. You should know your Apple login then. If you don't have that, I suspect they can look it up at an Apple store with your phone number or credit card. Otherwise, you may need to prove your date of purchase.

c) lastly, you can ask for a discount on the Apple Care plan. At various times when I have bought a Mac, the store has offered my $100 off the Apple Care. Doesn't hurt to ask.

Apple care protection plan ?computer security

I believe you would have to get the protection plan before the computers warranty runs out although the best place to look would be Apple. As for when it was purchased I believe you would have to call Apple. I don't think there is a way on their website for you to find out purchase dates unless maybe you bought it directly from the Apple store online there might be that info in your account.

I usually start with Spybot Search and Destroy but I also like the online scan at www.BitDefender.com. Both are no charge.

Kaspersky has a support site. Give them the message along with the version, the file size and the file creation date.

I have another idea. If you Google the exact file name you might find that there are infected versions which you can identify by five size and creation date.

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en%26q=win...

I have kapersky 2007 virus protection , when I install super collapse II kapesky blocks it as a virus.?computer virus

i would suggest you to run an spyware software like XoftSpy SE from http://www.geeksjunction.com to check your computer for viruses and spyware.
If you're sure it's not a virus then right click on the Kaspersky icon in the bottom right hand corner of the screen, click on pause protection and then install the game. I had problems with installing certain programs while running Kaspersky. It's a good antivirus program but occasionally interferes with installation. (I had to pause it occasionally while installing updates for World of Warcraft)

Certain programs can end up flagged as viruses when they're not and this happens sometimes with pretty much every antivirus program.

If you really want to get rid of Kaspersky, try AVG it's pretty good too.

All sorts of problems with my computer spyware and I dont know what else...?

ok so I had to reformat my computer well i lost my spyware and virus protection with it... anyways now im infected with god knows what. well heres what its doing it wont even let me go to my desktop. it just says spyware detected on your computer install a spyware remover to clean your computer. Spyware and virus protection etc.?

I just bought a computer from Best buy and also got Norton virus protection and some spyware thing they recomended. Are previous computer we had crashed 3 times, we had McAfee before the 3rd time it crashed. What are the best software programs to have? How often should I update? how often should I run a clean up? I don't know much about viruses, but I don't want my computer to crash again. Are the programs I go from best buy going to work? Also do you know if I can go in and recover anything on my computer? Is it worth getting it running again, or just pitch?

Spyware and virus protection etc.?aurora

if you are sure that crash was because of the virus or malware then you'd better use Kaspersky internet security

this will gaurd your computer from maware ,trojans, spywares ,viruses, popups and etc.

it has afirewall which you can exactly tell that which program has permission to use internet connection ,it will also block site contain harmful scripts for your PC and it updates in database everyday.

but still this cannot garantee that your computer will never infect because every program wrote by prorgrammers and human can make mistake but this is more trustable.

also this is depend on you and your habbits that what do you do when you are using internet, sites you visiting, people you are contacting and many other things you do.

2) AVG is a great free AV program - after the initial 30 days trail, the "pro" features are disabled but the basic AV protection is still there and very good.

Installed more ram computer still slow?avast

2.8 ghz with 768mb RAM should be great with Windows XP.

If your computer is running slow I would check a few things.

1. download Ad-Aware and run it, good program that is free and it really works.

2. If you have many icons next to the clock (in the system tray), those are going to slow down your computer. Right click on the ones you do not need and exit them, or even better go into their options and disable them (if possible). After that if you still have a ton of icons there you can disable them before they even start.

We just renewed norton 2006 and it does not clear the viruses from our computer. it says fix prob, butit wontcafe racer

Here are the steps that you should take.

- Try to use the Emergency thing that comes on the Norton 2006 disk. Oh, you didn't buy the disk? Do I have to tell you... you should always buy the disk at a retail store instead of DOWNLOAD it. You see, if your computer is infected, how can you trust a download. Besides, then you would HAVE THE DISK.

- Reboot into SAFE MODE. Then run your Norton Anti-virus scan.

- be sure to uninstall any BOGUS programs that appeared while you were not looking. For security, you should only have trusted programs like SpyBot and Ad-aware.

- Visit the Symantec website at http://www.symantec.com and look for the type of virus that the Anti-virus program says that you have. There should be clear instructions on how to remove that virus.

Good luck and Happy Computing!

Computer help regarding Micro SD cards?

i recently bought a micro SD card for my phone so i can play music on my phone and such, it also came with a little adapter that i can plug in the micro card to an SD slot on my computer. well' my computer recognizes the card and everything, it just won't let me drag music and photos to it it. it keeps on telling me the the disk is write-protected and to remove the write protection or use another disk. i don't know what to do. does anybody know what that even means and how i can fix it? thanks in advances.

Computer help regarding Micro SD cards?computer repair

Take a look at your micro SD card. There is probably a little switch, or tab on it. They are usually made of different coloured plastic to the main body of the card.

Some cards have the phrase "Lock" next to it.

If you find that little switch what you need to do is to flick it to its other position. That then allows writing to the microsd card.

Without knowing what MicroSD card it is it is almost impossible to be any more specific.

Why does MySpace slow down my browser and computer response time?

I can go to any website and not have this sort of problem, but when I get to MySpace and try to edit my page and go back to my profile to view it, the lag is around five to ten minutes.

My computer has a 3.4 GHz processor, 1 GB of RAM, and an awesome video card. There is also plenty of room on my 300 GB HDD, and I keep the current processes running at a minimum. Also I keep updated on all the software that enhances the performance of the computer, especially the Firewall, Virus and Spyware, etc. protection.

Can anyone tell me what the deal is with MySpace and why it takes so freaking long to go from page to page? Is there some program that I am missing to improve the performance of my computer that I may not have? What is up with MySpace?

most virus are spread through IE. IE is not a safe browser. you should use a more secure browser to protect your PC from virus.

i recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar. firefox can block any any popup and disable any virus and adware, spyware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE browser. as you know, most of virus spread throught internet and webpage.

besides, firefox is much smaller than IE, so it run faster than IE.

It shouldn't, not unless someone put a virus on their myspace.
No, it won't...
If your computer is 100% patched with all Windows Critical Updates from Windows Updates, you will have much less chance of getting infected on MySpace. And of course, a good and current anti-virus is also a must.

MySpace is attractive to malicious computer attackers and hackers because so many of its users are children who are naive about computers and have little knowledge of computer security. But on the whole, MySpace is fairly safe.
no myspace is pretty safe from spyware. Block pop ups they contain stuff. Use AVG virus protection. Its free and doesn't drain as much memory and slow your computer down as much!

My computer is constantly crashing and has been for months now: I need serious help please?

For months now (many of them) my PC has been crashing after about only 2 or 3 minutes of web surfing. The whole operating system crashes often and if that doesn't happen, the screen will freeze, leaving nothing operable.

I have asked this question on many forums but no one can help so please please can anyone here help? Im in dire need of PC assistance.

i run windows xp home edition on an Intel Celeron system.

I can only use the PC in safe mode as of the last year or so and the last few months of the year, my OS constantly crashes in Safe Mode too

The last 3 months or so i have noticed this harbinger to a crash...the system will come up with a small error box on the screen saying Protection:45 and upon clicking OK, the PC 8 times out of 10 crashes (whole OS).

I have always been of the impression that my modem (as hardware) is causing the issue) as when it is not connected, the PC doesn't crash.

My connection line is fine but i think the modem itself might be the cause

My computer is constantly crashing and has been for months now: I need serious help please?download

Why don't you buy a new modem and try again? They're really cheap.

Otherwise, I'd suggest you format the hard drive and reinstall your OS (Make sure you have all your disk b4 doing this though!).

I'd install each piece of hardware bit by bit (Starting with the modem) and see what causes the machine to crash. You don't say how old the machine is or how much memory you are using etc. Did you buy the system with XP installed or did you upgrade?

I have a problem with my new HP computer.?

I have a HP Pavilion a1440n. I purchased it about a week ago. I have a problem with it though. IT FREEZES A LOT. Everytime I visit a web page, write an e-mail, or click a link it just seems to stop responding and Internet Explorer closes. I'm very fustrated with it. I'm tired of losing all my work.

At first I didn't think of it as a problem becasue my older computer used to do it sometimes... rarley. But, as the days go by, my new HP computer continues to act up. Internet Explorer keeps freezing. This happens 15 or more times a day!--it's angering me.

I have virus protection and eveything is updated and safe. I visit safe websites just as I did on my older computer which happens to work a lot better than my new HP computer--which is suppose to be "great" and "top of the line". I just don't know what to think of it anymore.

Does anyone know what can possibly be wrong with my computer? Please help me out. I appreciate your concern.

How can internet be a dangerous thing?

Like ok i answer my own question right now and give ya a example I think that if you don t have virus protection that the most important one becuase ya computer will act slow and would not work properly but if you have a virus protection you safe plus you need more than a virus protection like firewalls and etc. and chatrooms are safe allow you don t meet people in person that u don t know like it could be a stranger or undercover cop that what i think about the computer what ya think?

basically as long as you know the potentials of the internet, i feel it can be quite safe. i dont even have any virus scan or anything and i never have any problems. i just know what looks suspicious to download and not. i do have a firewall though built into my router. basically just play it smart and use common sence and you should be fine.

Internet bad.
The problem with the Internet is that it is almost impossible to regulate the sick twisted freaks on it. There will always be hackers breaking through the newest anti-virus programs, and there will always be impressionable children that slip through the protective netting that should be set up by the parent and are taken by psychos. It's kinda like a gun, beneficial in the right hands, devastating in the wrong, it doesn't matter what you do.

Is there a free antispy program with realtime protection?

I'm concerned about the security of my computer, and while I have an active firewall (ZoneAlarm Free) and an active antivirus (AVG Free), I don't have an active antispy application. I'd like to buy one, but I'm too poor to buy software (hence my preference for free products over paid ones). I'm currently searching for a free (not trial version) antispy program that has realtime protection (meaning it starts up automatically with my computer when I log on to my computer) and that I can schedule scans with. Please do not recommend Spyware Terminator from Crawler, however, as I have tried that application and have had an immensely unsatisfactory experience with it.

Is there a free antispy program with realtime protection?free adware remover

AVG Antispy as suggested above only has real-time protection during the trial period, after that it reverts to being just an on-demand scanner.

I don't know of any free antispyware with real-time protection other than AVG during the trial, and Spyware Terminator.

Spybot isn't really real-time because all it does is immunize your browser (SD Helper) and/or monitor your registry (Tea Timer function.)

However, Comodo's BOClean is a real-time antimalware which performs a one-time scan on installation and I believe it can be set to scan on demand. I have my BOClean running in the background and have never run an on-demand scan with it.

Computer repair question?

My question is about either getting a new computer or getting my old one fixed. I have a laptop. You see, my old one has a lot, I'm talking, a lot of virues on it, it was all because of some pop up that I accidently clicked on and it decided to download and add a bunch of crap to my computer that I didn't want. Plus, my screen is kind of broken. It wiggles, it only stays in one certain spot, it doesn't move like its supposed to. My computer has also become very slow lately too. My computer is three years old. It's not that old but it really sucks now. It's been dropped to many times too. Should I just get a new computer or use that money and fix it but would it be worth it? Also, for everyone who reads this watch out for a popup called WinAntiSpyware2007, funny isn't it, that an ANTI virus protection caused the virus. Just thought I would warn you. Any help would be great by the way.

Computer repair question?free anti virus

These guys did a good job in telling you how to clean the scumware from your machine. Now you just need to fix the screen. If it is just wobbling then it is easily fixed. Look along the bottom of the screen and you should see some small plastic panels on each side. Take a small screw driver and gently pry up on the and it should expose the hinge area. There you will find anything from allen screws to philips screws. Take them out one by one and put a drop or two of Loc-tite thread locker on it and replace each one, one at a time. As you get to the end you will find the hinge has tightened and almost as good as new. Then come back and post a question on how to remove a bunch of unwanted programs that run in the taskbar that does nothing but bog the machine down... Or you could do a search for it on here and aviod the wait for a good answer...

What's wrong with it??? is there anything i can do to fix this???

HELP my computer is acting weird!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!????free antivirus download

The first thing to do would be to scan it for everything. Scan for virus', spyware, and malware. Since you already have virus protection use whatever you already have to scan for virus'. Make sure you up date the definitions though for all of these. You can use Ad-Aware SE for the adware. Use Spybot Search %26 Destroy to scan for the spyware and malware. If that does not work then try updating your browser. If you use a browser other than Internet Explorer than uninstall your downloaded browser and try reinstalling it. If you use IE make sure to update it to IE7 and if that doesn't work you may try using a differant browser altogether. I would try using either Mozilla Firefox or Opera. Good Luck!

i would try running your virus protection , also download this computer cleaner called ccleaner. it seems to be a pretty good utility program. i would also use spybot search and destroy.
You can also try using system restore to an earlier date when everything worked. Start/accessories/system tools/system restore. The computer will restart after the restore - good luck!

Scrreensavers are all that i have found. Seems thay made computers to share and not to hide things.
The "Window" key and L will put you to your login screen. Of course, if you don't have a log on password that is kind of redundant.
I am unsure if they have it but visit "majorgeeks.com" and see if they have something suitible
It would be better if, when you are away from your computer, Press the Window Key+L. This will lock your computer instantly to your login screen, without shutting down your programs. To log back in, simply insert your password and resume. Fastest way which saves space on your hard drive, and is an easy two button combo!

You can use Microsoft's Windows Live OneCare for the time being. It's an all in one security suite + system maintenance tool. You get the fully-functional trial for 90 days, after which you will have to pay a one time fee to continue to use it. The fee is only about 50-60$.

http://windowsonecare.com/

If you want to look for free options after the trial, I will suggest using Avast! Home Edition ( as you have mentioned) and Windows Firewall. Vista also comes with Windows Defender, an anti-spyware utility, so you needn't worry about that. The Windows Firewall in Vista also monitors outbound traffic, again a plus point for you! I haven't used Vista yet, but you can activate both Defender and Firewall from Vista's Security Center.

Looking for av, firewall, and spy/spam protection for Vista does anyone provide all in one protection?kawasaki

Norton, McAfee, Trend Micro, Kaspersky %26NOD32 Security suite (beta) are the only major one's that I know of that will work with Vista so far.
If you looking for all in one protection. You should considered an internet security suite. They are very effective. A suite also cuts down on the amount of system conflicts, that you can have will using multiple software. A good security suite should include a firewall, anti-spyware, antivirus and privacy software. Hope this helps.

What is the difference between a trial and full version software?

1. Does a trial comes with all the features that the full version has its just that its only good for short amount of time?

2. What is the longest Trial day for any security suite programs?

3. Can i keep downloading the same trial once the trial is up on a same computer or do i have to change my registration for the trial so i keep using?

3. No. A file or line in the registry records the original date prevents you from uninstalling and reinstalling to get around the time restriction. You may be able to delete these records by reformatting your drive and reinstalling Windows.

4) For internet security you need a full time antivirus and spyware protection. Almost every internet provider offers a free protection suite.

How to make home internet safe for kids ?

I wish to allow internet usage to my kids ( ages 14 and 11 ), but am disturbed how to safeguard them from nude and porno websites.

My kids computer has Win XP-Professiona installed, I have administrator password, and have created limited user accounts for both kids.

Should I be using some softwares like Cyber-Patrol, or Net-Nanny ? If yes then please advise which software is by far best ( though I understand that no software can give 100% protection ).

How to make home internet safe for kids ?free spyware

I don't know about any of that software, but I suggest that you put the computer in plain sight for the rest of the family. That will discourage them from using the computer inappropriately while you are at home, and will make it apparent when they use the computer. You might set aside a room strictly for computer use, and maintain a presence there too. Also, I think Internet Explorer has a content control system. Check the Internet Options dialog for that feature.

How to make home internet safe for kids ?live update

Kids are kids. You can have every website blocked but, no matter what, the Internet still won't be "safe" for them. They'll find something or their friends will send them something, rude people will expose them, and no software is on top of all the adult websites because they're being made every day in almost every language.

Privacy protection software?

Does anyone know if those privacy protection software downloads are a scam?

If you are browsing through adult websites and a pop comes up saying "all the webistes you are looking at are being recorded including your CC numbers etc.. " and you need to get a privacy protector! that looks like a scam and once you download that software it probably makes it worse and puts cookies on your computer and then keeps track of everything.

Privacy protection software?hp

Yes and no about scams. A good amount are scams, but at the same time the message they are telling you is real. If you get one of these pop-ups and want to know if it is legit then go on tucows.com or download.com or something and look it up. Or better yet just type in something general like "privacy protection" and then whatever results come up consider downloading one of those.

Do not trust the pop-up and download right from there but do some research. There are many internet privacy softwares out there that are not scams. Some will delete cookies and everything while others will allow you to hide and browse without deleting files since they encrypt them for you.

Privacy protection software?mcaffee

In this particular instance it definitely sounds like a scam. These kind of tactics are common with some software sellers who want to press a certain brand to make them money, but the chances are (and they're very high) that the software is infected with spyware - which is always installed without your knowledge.

If you're looking for reputable security software (free or paid versions), check out the site below.
you can use norton internet security
A good rule of thumb is to never buy or trust anything that is advertised on a pop-up, ever.
if its a pop up off an adult website, its most likely a virus/spyware

however, there are legit programs for this purpose, such as

"ccleaner"

and others that truly clear caches cookies etc

You can download AVG free. It is wonderful anti-virus software. Go to http://free.grisoft.com
I like to use AVG. They have a free version that works well as well. Just look up AVG free edition in google and you will find it.
looks like ive been beaten to it but id go with AVG free edition, i've not had a virus in the 4 years i've sued it across various PCs on various operating systems
avira antivir
Windows Live ONECare is what I use for my computers, and with the one which has Vista, just downloaded their Beta version which I find good.
I do not recommend any of the free products like AVG, as they are often buggy, and slow performance wise. For less than $50 you can get a professional, feature-rich program like Norton. A computer is like an automobile in that it needs regular maintenance, and Anti-spyware and Anti-virus programs provide you with this. I have a couple of recommendation's for you. Use the links at the end of this post for good starting places.

1. Download/buy a good anti-virus program such a Norton.

2. Download/buy a good Anti-spyware program. Windows Defender is free and quite useful and is available for download from the Microsoft website.

Computer start up too slow...?

This has been an issue for awhile once I sign in-- til I get on the internet it takes an eternity. I'm wanna throw the damn thing! What can I do to possibly help it speed up? I defrag, scan often and have firewall and a lot of protection, what else can I do besides these? And if there is, I'm sure I won't know how to do it so a possible explaination of how to do so or a site that can tell me how, would be greatly appreciated!!! My start up folder doesn't have much running BUT if I wanted to stop those from running, how do I do so? I know there hidden things can be on your computer too, is there a way to find those and get rid of them if scanning doesn't get them? Thanks!!

Computer start up too slow...?internet security 2006

According to your description, there are some registry errors in your PC to cause "Computer start up slow".You need to clean your PC.

Registry cleaner is a powerful and useful tool to elinimate to the clutter and junk that builds up in your PC's registry from installing and removing programs, creating and deleting files and surfing online.Without regular system tune鈥搖ps,the computer will run slow, crash, full of error messages and more...Scanning and cleanning your PC with registry cleaner can make your pc faster.Good Regisry Cleaner will improve your PC and Internet performance dramatically, dramatically!

I am having lots of problems with my fairly new computer. See Details for more details lol. Help?

A while back I started getting error messages saying runtime error #### (cant remember numbers) I would have to completely shut off computer because it would start popping back up after I continually pressed ok, exit, cancel.

I haven't had much problem with popups, with my popup toolbars like yahoo and msn and neopets lol along with ie popup blocker. I also have Norton AntiVirus that scans every Friday. But all of a sudden, i am getting porno popups. I am also getting popups that tell me to use Registery Cleaner to scan my PC, which i downloaded. More popups come up telling me i need to do this to make my computer better. Most of the popups are Target, New Offers, and one that has a whole bunch of letters and numbers. Ya know, up there where Yahoo! Answers is now.

What is wrong? And what can I download free for now to help? And what should I go to Staples and buy for protection? Need more detail? Email me at holly_s93@hotmail.com. Thanks for you help!

I would first go to www.avast.com and download their free anti-virus software. Install it, run their updates, run a complete system scan. Once you clean that up I'd do a search for a free adware removal tool. Like microsofts free tool

Which Computer Should I Get?network security

Sony, Compaq, or HP just look for 1 with your requirements
If you are gaming, then you want a full-sized desktop with a dual-core processor (Core 2 or Athlon X2) with at least 1GB of DDR2 RAM. Desktops normally don't come with high-end graphics cards, so I suggest upgrading later on if you really need to. Higher end graphics cards can go for $200+. As for school work, if your PC doesn't come with Microsoft Office then I suggest searching and downloading Open Office. It's a great alternative for MS Office. For virus protection, I'd say go Norton. I've had Norton for 3 years and no viruses at all.
I always advise against buying from a department or electronics store because you always have to buy the whole package of software that contains a lot of crap you dont need. I suggest have Gateway build you one with your specs. I use gateways and have not had any problems with the last three as I have with HP. Use the extra money for memory, larger hard drive and whatever else you might NEED not what they want you to have
You should get a Toshiba Satellite M65-S9092. I have one, and I love it. I would highly recommend it.
Your price rang was the same as mine was. Recently i just purchased a HP Pavilion dv6500t series. It has been great so far. I bought mine for 1088 dollars with all the goodies like, a Intel Core 2 Duo processor 2.00 GHz, 4 MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB, 2GB of memory, a kick *** Graphics Card, a web-cam, and 120 GB hard drive. It also came with also a few other free upgrades for like that you can check out. Here's the link for the HP if you want to take a gander at it.

How can I get rid of about:blank on my compter for FREE??

I am having trouble with the dreaded about:blank virus on my computer. I have AVG protection, but it does not seem to find about:blank and destroy it. My about:blank does NOT attempt to or change my hompage, this remains okay, but it WILL often crash messengers and webpages, in a way that I cannot shut down/restart my computer in the proper way.

I am looking for a totally FREE tool, to get rid of about:blank, not just some *free scan* nonesense, which then you have to PAY to remove stuff. Any ideas?

I can't use ANYTHING from the Microsoft site, because I cannot pass the validation thing.

Anything would be great or any good links.

Thanks :)

VIRUS REMOVAL STEPS:

Possible virus on my computer but not sure...need some help please??

This actually happened on my old computer, now it's on my lab top which by the way is a Dell Inspiron B130 if that helps. anyway when i open Internet Explorer i can use it for a while but when i'm on a site too long or try to open up another page it decides it wants to freeze up i get the little sand timer and have to close. sometimes it even happens right when i open. i don't know if it's gonna get worse or go away. all my spam and virus protection is up to date and i think there is a way to fix this but i'm not really sure. it's making me mad so any advice or directions to fix this from a computer tech or knows what's going on would be helpful and appreciated. thanks!

Possible virus on my computer but not sure...need some help please??live update

Internet Explorer freezes, shuts down without warning, or the computer reboots.

This problem is often caused by out-of-date video drivers. Go to the Web site run by the manufacturer of your video card and download, then install, the latest (non-beta) drivers for your video card.

Alternatively, you can try the following:

1.

Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

2.

On the left side select the Switch to Classic View, Click Display, click the Settings tab, and then click Advanced.

3.

Click the Performance or Troubleshooting tab (depending on your operating system), and then reduce hardware acceleration a notch at a time until your system stabilizes.

How to Kill the hell out of Trojan Virus that The New Yahoo Messenger caused on my PC?

Problem after norton install for yahoo online protection?

hi, thursday i did an update of my online protection software and norton install. ever since my computer has been constantly rebooting and i could not publish my websites updates. kept getting error saying i was not connected to internet when i was. starting uninstalling norton now i can publish my website. is there anyway to go back to the previous software i had with yahoo online protection?

Problem after norton install for yahoo online protection?mcaffee

Nortons is the very worse garbage in the world. Stay away from, it after you remove Nortons. Nortons leaves behind atleast 375 fragments glued to all your registry keys, files, folders and hidden in your system. It is hell trying to remove these fragments. (If you need special software that is free to remove any write protected file, ctc., me and I will give you the link, plus indepth instruction on how to get rid of all of Nortons. Add/Remove, only removes pieces of Nortons.

You can start by going to your tray and open start, open run and type in: c://programs files. Click on browse, and click on program files. Look for Nortons or Symantec and try and delete the files. (If they delete fine, if not ctc. me).

Next go to start, search and type in: Nortons and let your pc scan for the file, when the files come up delete all related files from the top to the bottom. If some files don't delete reboot and do all over again and they should delete.

Sick of my computer?

I am so sick of my computer LoL* But who isn't?

I have win xp home. No security protection because everytime I try and put something on my computer to *protect* it I get the dreaded blue screen!

I have now downloaded ccleaner which seems to be the only thing that will work, but it doens't get rid of viruses etc.

I have tons of trojans, adware, spyware. As of yesterday I now have this blinking icon in my system tray which goes from a question mark to a red X and tells me system alert every 5 second. If I click on it, it takes me to spylocked.com. I can NOT get rid of it...and I really think that it is most of my problem.

AND NOW when I try and open my IE up. It doesn't allow me to go to a website. It just sits there and says searching....but if I click on the searbar it allows me to go.

Can ANYONE help me or give me some advice.

That yellow triangle message and red X are signs of the Trojan.Zlob virus (or one of its variants).

This one, and I am sure you have more than one, can be hard to clean - since half the places you need to go on the 'net to fix it will be blocked.

ROUTER SECURITY PROTECTIONS- The router is suppose to posess additional MALWARE protection capabilit

How do you eneble them. A Westell Versalink 327W "hardwired" to one computer and a 2nd computer connected thru a USB wireless remote. If it can be done, will it conflict with any "resident/always running" Virus and Spyware protections?

ROUTER SECURITY PROTECTIONS- The router is suppose to posess additional MALWARE protection capabilities...?moto guzzi

I don't think any routers have anit-malware protection because malware is just an application that gets installed and does bad things. Unless the router's able to scan your machine (which I've never heard of) then it wouldn't be able to prevent such applications from running.

Maybe you mean the firewall that's built-in and can protect attacks?

Anyhow, here's the manual for the router you mention and it has a lot of settings to choose from that can make your network more secure: http://westell.com/content/sales/327W.pd...

ROUTER SECURITY PROTECTIONS- The router is suppose to posess additional MALWARE protection capabilities...?norton internet security 2008

Router never conflict's with any internal softwares. Router is an additional firewall which doesn't conflict with internal firewall. Anyways it protects against hackers and is better than all possible software firewalls. I don't think if it does protect against Malwares as malwares often comes from sites and a firewall may or maynot prevent malware from sites. But it sure wud prevent trojans, spyware or malware from contacting their servers to communicate.

In windows and mac os - a good antivirus, antispyware and a firewall. Then have a secure password.

In linux - a good, secure password.
i dont know in which term u r talking about but for a start..

access controls---%26gt;Eliminate the risk of everyone accessing the data by setting up internal firewalls

update the system---%26gt;%26gt; new versions always has something better

password policies--%26gt;%26gt;prevent password sharing

Monitoring--%26gt;%26gt;watching whats going on is always a good idea

Virus Protection--%26gt;%26gt;Malicious code such as viruses, worms, and Trojan horses can infiltrate personal computers, allowing attackers to compromise the integrity of data

Spyware--%26gt;%26gt;This illegal access is often used to intercept the user IDs and passwords to your online accounts.

Direct Tv Tivo receiver died. Is there a way to retrieve my recorded shows?

Our Direct Tv receiver with Tivo died, 3 years from date of purchase. I am not so concerned about all the PPV movies. If they were that good I would have bought them. I REALLY want the Planet Earth series from the Discovery Channel off of it though.

Are there any options? We have newer Desk-top %26 Lap top computers, flash drives, cd/dvd burners, also Direct TV diagnosed this death and we had them sent us a leased unit. (Not going to buy another if that's all the longer last) The leased unit is not Tivo however (compatability issue?). They no longer offer that.

Also what do you recomend for future protection? Downloading shows onto VCR as back-up?

Please respond / instruct in plain english. I am not a total computer / tech idiot but some of you guys speak a bizzare language of your own! (LOL) Thanks in advance!

I will reward best answer. I follow yahoo answers daily!

Direct Tv Tivo receiver died. Is there a way to retrieve my recorded shows?computer

mraudio is corrrect with what he mentions here. There IS another possibilty also but it would require you purchasing another (EXACT same model) DirecTV Tivo from places like Ebay. Once you purchase another DirecTV Tivo you can install the hard drive from your old unit into the new unit. Then ALL you had saved (UNLESS IT IS THE HARD DRIVE THAT DIED) would still be there for you to watch.

As he mentioned also the DirecTV Tivo units can be MODIFIED legally with the necessary software from http://www.dvrupgrade.com and look for their InstantCake 6.2a software and PTVnet software. Once both of these have been installed on a NEW hard drive you can network it to your homes wired/wireless network so you can transfer the shows/movies to the PC quickly.

Itunes won't work on my computer?

tried everything i can think of. totally deleting and reinstalling itunes and quicktime with the newest version 7.5, unchecked all compatibility boxes, have no virus protection running. itunes icon appears on my desktop, click it and nothing happens, cn click on the icon in program files also does nothing. Any suggestions? Using windows xp OS.

Itunes won't work on my computer?computers

Okay- try this - first uninstall I tunes all over again-, and Quick time as well, now once you are done- you'll have to manually delete registry entries in the system registry - click start- then run - and in the dialog box type "REG EDIT" a new window will open and then expand H_KEY_LOCAL _MACHINE- then expand - SOFTWARE- Okay - find then folder that contains Apple quick time and delete it. do the same for I tunes.

Go ahead and restart your system, and try re-installing Quick time first, and then i tunes, that should do it.

A question about AVG virus protection?

It just started running a test on my computer by itself, which is ok I guess, but it's already found two viruses. Will AVG automatically delete these or am I going to have to go in the file and do it manually?

A question about AVG virus protection?download

When AVG has done a complete scan it will ask if you want to "heal" the problems that it has found. Let it. If there are any viruses or problems that it can't heal it will ask if you want to put them into the "virus" vault. Let it. After it is done, you should probably do a reboot.

Keep your virus definitions up to date and all should be well. If you don't want AVG to run automatically, right click the icon in the system try and then click "Launch AVG Control Center". Now click "Test Center" and then click "Scheduler". In "Scheduled Tasks" highlight a schedule and then click "Edit Schedule. In the box that opens uncheck "Periodically start scheduled antivirus test". But remember that if you do not let your anti virus software run automaticly, you will need to run it manually.
