Will not update AVG even after deactivating firewall. It also will not connect to a game server called Last Chaos. Internet works fine otherwise. I have checked everything on AVG and it is set to its proper settings. I have been downloading the virus definitions from grisoft to keep the protection current. Please advise.

I would shut down all other programs you dont need, and see if avg will update, there may be a program that is stopping avg from downloading? its worth a try.

Had that problem with one system because it had missed a couple of updates. Went in and downloaded the latest version, uninstalled current version, rebooted and reloaded. Everything has been working fine since. There was one or two days that if the update was missed, it would not load the new control file and the latest update to the version. Be sure to disable the current version before trying to uninstall.
Try uninstalling then download the latest version from the web site and reinstall. If it's licensed your existing license will still work. Provided you have it. Just put it back in.
I've never had a problem with AVG like that.
