Are there any copyright protection issues impacting playback with uploading my DVD's and blu-rays that I own/rent onto a personal computer? If so, how would one get around these?

I'm not sure yet with the Blue Ray, but you can download DVD shrink which will allow you to remove the protection so you can put it on your machine and even burn it.
However, you can only do it legally if you are making a back up copy for yourself and not sharing with friends and family. Personally, I back up every DVD I buy in case it gets lost or scratched.
